Heat treat processes for wrought aluminum alloys include, but are not limited to: solution heat treatment and age hardening (aka aging or precipitation hardening) and annealing and partial annealing. Heat treating processes for cast alloys include, but are not limited to: homogenization, solution heat treatment, aging, stabilization, precipitation hardening, annealing and partial annealing (aka stress relief). While heat treating methods for wrought aluminum alloys and cast aluminum alloys are often similar, they differ in certain aspects. For example, soak times are typically longer, and quench media are different for cast alloys, because they often involve thicker sections of more complex shape.
