Significant Accomplishments

  1. Tripled the size of Industrial Heating magazine during my tenure from roughly $1million to $3 million in annual sales (1994-2013).
  2. Along with Mr. David Lurie, co-founded (1995), produced (1995, 1996, 1998), and then sold (1999) Furnaces North America (FNA – furnacesnorthamerica.com) conference and trade show. FNA is still operational today and is owned and operated by the Metal Treating Institute (heattreatonline.com).
  3. In cooperation with Arcadis and Georgia Tech, co-founded and produced the first two RemTec Summits (remtecsummit.com) (2009). RemTec is still operational today and is owned by BNP Media (bnpmedia.com). “RemTec” stands for “remediation technology” – and is a leading environmental technology conference.
  4. Published a 400+ page book entitled From Hitler to Christ: A Journey from Darkness to Light by Karl H. Heller, PhD (2013). This book is available on Amazon. This was a personal project and was not associated with any previous employer. It was done pro bono.
  5. In cooperation with BNP Media, published the technical book entitled Vacuum Heat Treatment by Mr. Daniel Herring, the Heat Treat Doctor. This book is available at www.industrialheating.com.
  6. Founded Forging Engineering & Technology (FE&T) magazine, a supplement to Industrial Heating magazine (1997). FE&T folded after 3 years in existence.
  7. With Mr. Steve Roth, co-founded FORGE magazine (January 2007).
  8. Founded FORGExpo (2011), the global forging industry’s first virtual tradeshow.
  9. In cooperation with Chinese publishing partner, Mr. Arlen LUO, founded and developed Industrial Heating China (February 2005). This special international edition of Industrial Heating is still published, now bi-monthly.
  10. Founded and developed FORGE China (October 2008)
  11. Founded Pollution Engineering China
  12. Founded Process Heating China
  13. Founded Industrial Heating Brazil (April 2008)
  14. Founded FORGE Brazil (September 2008)

  25. In cooperation with Mr. Tom Morrison of the Metal Treating Institute (www.callmti.com), co-founded Heat Treating magazine, a quarterly supplement to Industrial Heating magazine (March 2006). This publication is still being published.
  26. Eliminated the following competitive magazines: Heat Treating (CBS, Chilton, Penton), Metal Heat Treating (Penton), Metal Heat Treating Digest (Penton), Heat Treating Progress (ASM International).
  27. In cooperation with ASM International, co-founded HTS Insider, a bi-monthly publication of ASM International that was published for three years then ceased.
  28. Served on the Board of Directors of the Metal Treating Institute (2005-2011).
  29. Served on the Board of Directors of the Industrial Heating Equipment Association (2007-2013).
  30. Served as President of the Metal Treating Institute (2009-2010).
  31. Conceived and executed a “North American Pavilion” at Thermprocess, the largest international thermal processing event in the world held every four years in Dusseldorf, Germany. Planned the pavilion independently (2007); additionally, the next event was planned with Mrs. Anne Goyer, Executive Director of the Industrial Heating Equipment Association (2011).
  32. Keynote speaker at Brazil’s largest thermal processing conference, “Temas em Tratamentos Térmicos” (June 2012).
  33. Keynote speaker at a Polish thermal processing conference, Świebodzin, Poland (August 2013).
  34. Speaker at SECO/WARWICK Corporation’s Industrial Furnace Conference.
  35. Launched Industrial Heating’s first podcasts – one focusing on industry news and a second interviewing one of the magazines more popular monthly columnists.
  36. Launched Industrial Heating’s periodic video promotions and the IH YouTube channel.
  37. Recipient of the inaugural Metal Treating Institute’s “Associate of the Year” award (2003).
  38. In cooperation with Lance Miller, then Executive Director of the Metal Treating Institute, established the Commercial Heat Treater of the Year award. An award that is still given annually and has contributed over $20,000 to the education of metals and materials engineering students.

 

Personal Accomplishments

  1. Served on board of governors (Session) of South Hills Reformed Presbyterian Church (PCA) (1997-2001).
  2. Served on the board of governors (Session) of View Crest PCA (2005-2007).
  3. Served as committee member and interim-chair of the Candidates and Credentials Committee of the Pittsburgh Presbytery (2007).
  4. Served on board of directors of French Creek Valley Christian Academy, Saegertown, PA (1990-1994).
  5. Along with Randy Heinzl and Frank Hunter, co-founded Covenant Classical Christian Academy, Pittsburgh’s first Classical Christian School (1996). Served on the Academy’s board of directors and as president (1996-2002).
  6. Co-founder, governor on the board of directors, and president of Gideon Study Center, a Classical Christian home school study center, Pittsburgh, PA (2009-2013).
  7. Founded Pittsburgh’s Classical Christian Education conference. This conference still exists today (February 2000).
