Zak Griffa – Heat Treat Today 40 Under 40

Name: Zak Griffa
Company: Wisconsin Oven Corporation
Position: Manager of Product and Manufacturing Innovation
In 2013, Zak Griffa began his career at Wisconsin Oven Corporation as a mechanical engineer. Soon after, he began working on custom jobs, and over the next few years he worked on a wide variety of equipment. During this time, Zak improved the 3D modeling and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) processes, which allowed Wisconsin Oven to design equipment more efficiently to better fit the customers' needs. Zak's innovative ideas have revolutionized the horizontal quench systems that are changing how the heat treat industry approaches heat treat ovens and furnaces.

After five years, Zak was promoted to be the engineer of Innovation during which the most significant advance was DataSense — an IIoT platform that can remotely monitor and diagnose equipment via the cloud to prevent downtime. Zak developed algorithms to detect changes in the equipment's operation that are used in predictive failure analysis. As the leader of a team of engineers, Zak installed this feature into several ovens, furnaces, and environmental test chambers throughout the Thermal Product Solutions brands. Additionally, Zak led another team in modern industrial equipment design for ovens and furnaces that were designed to be built to function in an automated manufacturing facility. He assisted sales with presale oven design using CFD and test fixtures/ovens to ensure the part will heat up properly giving the customer confidence in the equipment and allowing for reduced commissioning time.

In 2022, Zak was promoted to manager of Product and Manufacturing Innovation and completed a leadership development course to help with his transition to this position. In his current position he works closely with Engineering and Production to improve processes and efficiency. During his short period of time in this position he has made some process improvements that help Wisconsin Oven to work more efficiently and produce better-performing equipment.
