A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Lee holds a BS, MS, and PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering all from the Colorado School of Mines. His graduate and doctoral research focused on alloy interactions during heat treatment of vanadium microalloyed steels. At Timken, Lee has made major contributions towards advancing the fundamental understanding of heat treating ultra-large bearings and bringing his work to production. Due to his expertise and continuous efforts in the field of industrial heat treatment, he was promoted as a group leader in the materials conversion group at the Timken Company. His ongoing research has led to multiple speaking engagements and publications -- including more than 13 articles in the field of heat treatment, 8 of which as the first author. He actively serves on the Heat Treating Society Membership Committee. In 2017, Lee was the recipient of the ASM HTS-Surface Combustion Emerging Leader Award, and he actively serves on the Heat Treating Society Membership Committee.
