Gabrielle Doehring – Heat Treat Today 40 Under 40

Name: Gabrielle Doehring
Company: Edwards Lifesciences LLC
Position: Engineer II, Manufacturing
In-House Heat Treater
Years in Industry: 5
Gabrielle Doehring has built an impressive heat treat career by applying metallurgical principles across two industries where precision is paramount. After beginning her career in aerospace, she brought that technical foundation to Edwards Lifesciences, where she now leads heat treat efforts for the company’s cobalt-chromium SAPIEN balloon-expandable heart valve frames — components that demand exceptional process control and consistency because of their life-saving applications.
A graduate of the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in materials science, Gabrielle first gained experience supporting the development and characterization of composite curing cycles in autoclaves while contributing to thermal mapping and heat-transfer studies. That work established a strong understanding of thermal processing that she has continued to build throughout her career.
Since joining Edwards Lifesciences in 2023, Gabrielle has quickly become the company’s subject matter expert for the heat treatment of the SAPIEN heart valve frame. She has an innate ability to combine deep technical knowledge with practical manufacturing solutions. She developed annealing-cycle vacuum requirements that reduce strain on production vacuum furnaces while maintaining process effectiveness, demonstrating an approach that strengthens both equipment reliability and manufacturing performance.
Her contributions extend well beyond process development. Gabrielle has repaired furnace components, modernized aging equipment, and helped sustain the operation of both vacuum and salt furnaces supporting production. She has also expanded her expertise into the heat treatment of Nitinol, broadening her knowledge of specialized materials while supporting additional product lines.
Gabrielle is also known for the way she shares her expertise. She has written and revised standard operating procedures to improve process consistency, collaborated closely with technicians and engineers to maintain critical manufacturing equipment, and taken an active role in mentoring newer engineers as they develop their own understanding of heat treat processes and furnace operations.
Whether improving thermal processes, maintaining essential equipment, or helping others grow professionally, Gabrielle demonstrates the technical excellence, initiative, and collaborative leadership that continue to strengthen the company’s manufacturing capabilities.
